One remote to rule them all. . . .

Kendall and I call our cable box the Eye of Mordor because it is shaped like an eye and has a red glowing dot in the center. We are now pleased to add the One True Remote to our Lord of the Rings metaphor. Yesterday we programmed our new Logitech Harmony 880 universal remote. This truly is one remote to rule them all. It controls Tivo. It controls the DVD player. It controls the radio. It controls our receiver. It controls the cablebox. Best of all, with the push of one button, it can turn on the TV, set it to the correct input, turn on the DVD player, turn on the receiver, and play the DVD for us. And if we could/knew how to exploit its full capabilities, it would control the lights and the temperature, and maybe even pop popcorn for us.

  1. Adam is always getting new gadgets that work as our "universal remote." I just can't figure them out or figure out why we have more than one of them...Hmmm. He recently spent money on what I consider a very ridiculous item: a TV to fit in the space where you can see it from the master bathtub. How often is that going to get used around here? Once a year?
